Retransmission Consent - what's it all about?
Retransmission Consent: Cable and satellite companies, under Federal Law, must re-negotiate the terms for carriage of broadcast network stations (ie: ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, etc.) every three years. Many of these agreements, known as retransmission consent agreements, expire December 31st 2017. MTC Cable has successfully renewed agreements with many of the broadcast stations currently in the MTC channel line-up. Negotiations are continuing with WRGB, WICZ, WNYT, and WPIX. In addition to these broadcast networks, a carriage agreement has yet to be reached with the Madison Square Garden (MSG) regional sports networks.
It remains the focus of MTC Cable to continue to negotiate in good faith in order to keep these stations available to our customers. However, if agreements cannot be reached by the December 31st deadline, MTC Cable may be forced to remove these stations from the MTC channel line-up.
MTC will provide additional information as it becomes available on our website in the event agreements are not reached before the end of the year.
