Watch TV Like Never Before
If we look back on television components from black and white to color, dial tuning to remote, antenna signal to direct connect cable … televisions have come a long way, to say the least.
Today many consumers are concerned with how to get the best, most realistic picture quality and the most dynamic sound from their device. Hence the revolution improvements from Standard Definition (SD) to High Definition (HD) to Ultra High Definition (UHD) 4K programming. Most televisions sold today are HD, and UHD (4K) is becoming the next big thing.
In simple terms, every generation after SD has an improved screen quality over the one before .
Good, Better, Best …
Television picture resolution is measured in pixels (the size of the horizontal lines by the size of the vertical lines which is considered a dot or pixel). A number of pixels indicates the maximum amount of image detail found on your screen.
SD: Standard Definition has been standard for TV quality since 1941. SDTVs are no longer being produced as their quality has been surpassed by HD and now UHD or 4K.
HD: High Definition television (circa late 1990s) has a higher resolution of 1080p, more than doubling the picture quality of SD.
UHD: Ultra High Definition (4K) (circa 2012) means a resolution of at least 2160p, again doubling the picture quality of HD.
So, what’s the big deal?
There’s no doubt that the television components have come a long way over the years, however, having HD or UHD (4K) television programming will definitely add to the quality that you expect from your devices. HD programming has become the norm over the past couple years and UHD (4K) programming is just making its mark through streaming sources and new Network programming.
